A few months ago, Twitch streamer Tyler Blevins, aka “Ninja” played a Fortnite match with the Canadian Rapper, Drake. This helped launch Ninja and streaming into the mainstream, catching the attention of those outside of the gaming world. As great of a benefit as this was for Ninja, Drake also stated that he would donate $5,000 to the stream if Ninja won the match. Not to anyone’s surprise, Ninja won. Drake proceeded to ask about payment details, vowing to keep his end of the bargain.
According to Ninja, Drake has yet to uphold his promise. In a tweet thread, it seems the streamer concluded that he would rather have made a “meaningful connection with Drake as a person” as opposed to getting the money.
In an NBC interview, Ninja was said to have been making at least $500k a month. So, safe to say, the money obviously wasn’t needed. That being said, many fans were disappointed on the streamer’s behalf.
Fortnite’s community has a lot of Drake fans, so many that people were even urging Epic Games to bring in a “Hotline Bling” emote to the game. Fans were even speculating that drakes new album Scorpion might contain a track dedicated to the games Battle Royale mode.
While it seems there is no bad blood between the two personally, there are fans from the other side, ones who are more fans of Drake than Ninja, who are claiming that Ninja should be grateful. Claiming that “Drake Made Ninja”.
As of now, the payment has yet to be made and fans continue to argue amongst themselves in forums and tweets. We will update this story as more info is released.
